The Employed Student Nurse (ESN) program is a unique employment opportunity for nursing students and psychiatric nursing students in their 3rd or 4th year of study. These supernumerary positions provide ESN’s the chance to learn in a real-life healthcare environment, to share their knowledge with different members of the healthcare team, and to bring new energy to all the areas participating in the program.
The ESN program promotes:
- Consolidation of new nursing knowledge and skills in a safe learning environment
- Realistic employment opportunities through active involvement with the healthcare team
- ‘Job readiness’ and the consideration of employment on the unit or within VCH upon graduation
